The Tryout scheduled for Sunday December 16th was cancelled due to bad weather. King Philip Regional High School was not available for our group that day. The final team selection date is Sunday December 30th. We apologize for any inconvenience this schedule may cause.

For most age groups we have a good idea as to which players will be selected to a team. We need to finalize selections and placement on each team at this point and therefore the fourth date is still necessary for our coaches to view the players one last time.

Players that are away on family vacation on the 30th are still considered for placement in the club - provided we have prior knowledge of the absence. We will use the notes (for missing players) that were made for each player during the firt three tryouts to make selections. All other players will have one last chance to be seen by the coaching staff.

SELECTION / CUT PROCESS

As much as we do not want to have to cut any players it is simply unavoidable given the response we have had this year. Across the club there are 295 players trying out to fill 200 spots.

On December 30th the teams will be finalized within the first hour and a half (parents please plan pick up time accordingly). The players will be called in and we will announce that they will take a water break AFTER a list of players numbers are called out. These numbers will be the players that HAVE MADE a team for the upcoming season. After the list is read, ALL THE PLAYERS will walk away for their water break together. We feel this is the kindest way to avoid embarrassment for any girl not selected for a team. At that point the players not selected are free to leave the tryouts.

All players that are selected for a team should return to the courts to meet with the coaches. We will use the last half hour to verify uniform size, assign uniform numbers, and discuss other details for the first practice which will be January 6th, 2008.

This is when players will need to turn in their check for the program fee to their coach. All checks are made payable to "Metrowest Juniors". The balance of $300 is due in full. (12 & unders balance is $250).

2007-2008 TRYOUTS

Players should attend ALL tryout dates (for either travel or local level) for optimum evaluation by the program staff to assure proper placement at the correct skill level. If a player misses a date, they may attend the next available date. Please notify the coaching staff in advance if possible.

A financial commitment to the program is expected on the final tryout date. If a player is missing from that date without prior knowledge of the coaching staff the player will be removed from consideration for a spot on a team within the club.

PLAYERS SELECTED FOR THE CLUB in the 18 thru 14 & under teams will receive a quality indoor competition volleyball. Volleyballs must be brought to all practices and games. 12 & unders will use the club's "volleylite" volleyballs in practices and games.

Travel team selections (Open and Regional levels) have been finalized for the upcoming season.

Any player not selected for these teams should attend the fourth tryout date (Dec 30) for placement on a Locals level team.

Local teams will be formed in December. It is the policy of the Metrowest Jrs. VBC to attempt to keep all players at the local levels. On that premise, teams are formed as fairly as possible. The club must take into consideration the availability of gym space and qualified coaching staff. Availability of teams will vary according to the players age, number of tryout participants, and skill level.

Once teams are selected on the final tryout date practices will be every Sunday in the same time slot at the same location (unless otherwise stated). See Schedule page.

ATTENTION! Our Club continues to have an overwhelming response of participants at our tryouts. At present we will only be able to retain teams in our club based on the number of qualified coaches to staff teams. We may have no option but to make cuts at our locals level. We strive to provide QUALITY versus quantity in our club.

Players in the 12 & under division WILL NOT be cut from the program, as they are generally first time players with less experience and have not had the time to learn the game yet. We will attempt to keep all 14 & under players as well.

Tentative team numbers may be (1) 18 Travel, (1) 16 Travel, (4) 18 local/ 17 local (combination of 18/17 players), (4) 16 local, (4) 15 local, (4) 14 local, and (2) 12 local.

USA Volleyball Age Divisions:
18's division: Players who were born on or after September 1, 1989 or players who were born on or after September 1, 1988 and a high school student during some part of the current academic year. Once a player participates in a club or varsity program for any university, college, community college, or junior college, she is ineligible to play in any Regional or National JOVC qualifying and Championship events.
17's division: Players who were born on or after September 1st, 1990.
16's division: Players who were born on or after September 1st, 1991.
15's division: Players who were born on or after September 1st, 1992.
14's division: Players who were born on or after September 1st, 1993.
(13's play in the 14 & under division in New England)
12's division: Players who were born on or after September 1st, 1995.
(age 9-11 play in the 12 & under division)

Age divisions are mandated by USA Volleyball (governing body). Look for month and year of birth in the table below to determine proper age division. Check age division tryout location in table above.

Pre-registration is preferred by Club.
The forms should be printed, completed and mailed prior to tryouts.

All members should complete and mail registration materials prior to tryouts. If not sent ahead have forms filled out to avoid waiting in line.

Registration may be done on site (but not preferred by club). Any player under 18 years of age requires a parent's signature on their registration forms.

Registration tryout fee is $ 30.00. Tryout fees are non-refundable.

Locally from Rt 109
Take Rt 109 to Millis. Rt 109 intersects with Rt 115 in Millis. Turn onto Rt 115 towards Norfolk. Follow Rt 115 to Norfolk center and turn right onto Main Street (just after commuter rail "T" stop). Continue on Main Street and turn left (at yellow flashing light) onto Park Street. Continue to end of road and turn left onto Rt 140 South and follow to KPHS on right.
Park in student parking area. Enter at front of building on the "bus circle". The field house is immediately inside this entrance.

From Mass Turnpike
Take exit 11A to Rt 495 South. Use exit 17 to Franklin Rt 140. Follow Rt 140 South to Wrentham. KPHS is on the right.

From Rhode Island on Rt 95
Take exit to Rt 495 North. Take "King Street" exit in Franklin. Turn right off ramp onto King Street. Turn right onto Rt 140 South and follow to Wrentham. KPHS is on the right.

Mansfield SportsPlex, Mansfield, MA.

Route 140 South, towards Mansfield. At your second light, take right onto Forbes Blvd. (Cabot Business Park). Go straight through the set of lights (Route 106) and continue straight. Take your second right onto Oxford Rd. You will see the Mansfield SportsPlex at the end of the street on the right hand side.
